A YELLOW SCULPTURE POPS OUT OF THE CLARENCE STREET STREETSCAPE IN SYDNEY'S CBD. K/F WERE APPROACHED BY THE DEVELOPER OF THIS COMMERCIAL PROJECT TO CONCEIVE AND PRODUCE A SURPRISING LURE FOR PASSERSBY AND TENANTS.
AN ENDLESS LOOP SPIRALS CONICALLY AROUND AND IN ON ITSELF, AN INVOLUTE POSITION,
PROTECTIVE, CONSTANTLY ENFOLDING AND REFOLDING THE SPACE WITHIN. THE TIGHT
GEOMETRIC FLOW TRACES THE DOUBLE LOOP INFINITY SYMBOL AND DRAWS IT INTO
A RENEWING 3 DIMENSIONAL ENVELOPE. THE TWO SIDES FLOW TOGETHER IN AN
INVOLVED CONSTANT EQUILIBRIUM, BALANCED BUT ENDLESS...SLOW, SCULPTURAL,
PERPETUAL, ONE OF A SERIES PROJECTS EXPLORING MOTION AND CONTINUITY,
INSTABILITY AND EQUILIBRIUM.
THIS PIECE MAKES AN DENSE KNOT, A POINT OF INTENSITY UNDER THE FLOATING FOLDED CEILING OF THE FOYER. VIEWED FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE PIECE PROGRESSIVELY REVEALS ITSELF AS THE PASSERBY WALKS THROUGH TO THE LIFTS. THE MANIPULATION OF 360KG OF STEEL INTO THIS FLUID FORM PRESENTED NEW TECHNICAL CHALLENGES FOR KORBAN/FLAUBERT.
